The “Wanted” Poster for Swat Taliban

Bill Rogio has posted (part of) a copy of the “Wanted” ad, showing pictures of 14 of the 21 alleged Taliban leaders, that has appeared in Pakistan newspapers:

Reading from right to left, top row first, the inscription under the pictures gives the “Prize Value” as follows:

  1. Mawlana Fazlullah, Commander Tehreek-e-Taliban, Swat, Rs 5,000,000
  2. Muslim Khan, Spokesman, Mawlana Fazlullah, Rs 4,000,000
  3. Qari Mushtaq, Commander Gali Bagh, Rs 3,000,000
  4. Shah Dawran, Vice [?], Mawlana Fazlullah, Rs 4,000,000
  5. Mahmud Khan, Commander, Kuzah Bandah, Rs 3,000,000
  6. Akbar Hussain, Commander, Kayl, Rs 2,000,000
  7. Sher Muhammad Qassab, Local Commander, Char Bagh, Rs 1,000,000
  1. Mian Gul Ghafur, Local Commander, Kuzah Bandah, Rs 1,000,000
  2. Nisar Ahmad, Local Commander, [Unreadable], Rs 1,000,000
  3. Fazal Hussain, alias [?] Mian, Commander, Torah Bandah, Rs 1,000,000
  4. Anwaarullah, alias Anwaar, Commander, Kuzah [??], Rs 1,000,000

  6. Sultan Hussain, Active Member, Mawlana Fazlullah Group, Rs 1,000,000
  7. Rasheed Ahmad, Active Member, Mawlana Fazlullah Group, Rs 1,000,000

It seems, however, that at least in one case (Qari Mushtaq, No. 3 in first row) the government has been trigger happy in putting a bounty on the head of an innocent man. According to The News, Qari Mushtaq, an employee of Bank of Khyber, has complained, as he put it, that the government has mistakenly used his picture for one of the wanted militants having identical name. “I am an employee of Bank of Khyber and it also happened one year back that the intelligence agencies, confusing me for the wanted Qari Mushtaq, arrested me,” he said, adding, “however they released me later.” With the publication of his picture, he is in hiding, lest some bounty hunter kill him.
